Italian composer Ennio Morricone has won the Golden Globe for best original score for his work on “The Hateful Eight”.

The score, which is getting a vinyl release on Jack White’s label, was originally written for John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, which shares the movie’s themes of snowbound paranoia.

Quentin Tarantino gave a frantic, possibly quite inebriated speech on Morricone’s behalf and compared his collaborator to the great classical composers.

“When I say favorite composer, I don’t mean a ‘movie composer’. That’s ghetto,” said the director. “I’m talking about Mozart, I’m talking about Beethoven, I’m talking about Schubert. That’s who I’m talking about.”

His lame choice of words elicited a shake of the head from actor Jamie Foxx, who was presenting the award and returned to the mic to add simply: “Ghetto.”

Sam Smith won the Golden Globe for best original song for his Bond theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’.

The Revenant made the biggest splash, winning the award for best dramatic film while leading man Leonardo DiCaprio got a best actor trophy and Alejandro G Inarritu was named best director.
