Prince has announced a Gala Event at his Paisley Park recording complex in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The event takes place on Thursday, January 21 and includes a pair of shows (at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.). Prince will perform solo with just a piano and a microphone.

Prince explained, in a press release, why he has decided to keep the shows to just a piano and a microphone: “For several reasons. For starters it is a challenge. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure. You can see exactly what you get.”

Prince originally planned to undertake “The Prince Spotlight: Piano & A Microphone” solo tour in Europe back in November. Unfortunately, he cancelled the dates following the tragic November 13 attacks in Paris.

Prince released HITNRUN Phase One and HITNRUN Phase Two in 2015.
