Monegros Desert Festival 2012

The 18th edition of Monegros Desert Festival will take place on July 21st 2012. One more year, Monegros Desert Festival comes back in the heated desert of Monegros for another unique event. The festival has established itself as one of the major players in the electronic music festival scene, gathering friends from all over Spain and Europe to join and celebrate the longest party of the summer season.

The biggest electronic music festival, the biggest rave in Spain. A lot of terms are used in an attempt to describe this festival; however it is literally impossible to put in plain words if you have not had the chance to attend it. A Life experience! Set in the desert, 40 000 people, 20hrs non-stop music, alternating between Electro, Techno, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass & Dubstep, on 5 simultaneous stages, Monegros is a unique event.

On top of the first 4 artists announced (The Prodigy, 2manydjs, Richie Hawtin & Violadores Del Verso); comes the rest of the line-up for the 2012 edition. From the tech-house grooves of Loco Dice and Luciano, the Dubstep wobbles of Caspa & Borgore, and vintage sounds of techno pioneers such as Laurent Garnier; the 2012 edition of Monegros Festival will cover and cater to all electronic music lovers.

Live Performances

As a rave, Monegros is mostly known for its DJ performing throughout the festival. However the festival always includes special live performances, from Electronic to Hip Hop. This year the main live performance will be in the hands of The Prodigy, returning to the desert after 6 long years. This will be an exclusive performance in Spain for 2012. On the Hip Hop side, the legendary rappers from Staten Island, NY: Wu Tang Clan (Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon & GZA, Streetlife y Dj Mathematics) will be performing on the San Miguel stage under the name Wu Legends. Finally Paul Kalkbrenner & Booka Shade will also present their live show as well as Laurent Ganier with his Live Booth Session with the support of Scan X and Benjamin Rippert.

Hip Hop Xpecial

For the last 10 years, Monegros Desert Festival has supported the national Hip Hop scene. This year, supporting Wu Legends, Violadores Del Verso will be performing in the desert in one of their only two shows for 2012. The Dutch group Dope D.O.D, the affiliates from Cypress Hill: Psycho Realm from LA and the Spanish artists Swan Fyahbwoy & Falsalarma will be some of the other artists playing on the Hip Hop stage.

Techno & House

Monegros goes back to its roots and reopens for the 2nd year the OPEN AIR Stage. Expect full techno, minimal and house. From Dubfire, Booka Shade (live), Laurent Garnier to Joris Voorn or Tiga., the open Air will cater to 15 000 fans – all dancing from sunset till sunrise under the stars. The Open air will also close with a showcase of the infamous Barcelona parties – ELROW. Expect craziness, toys, inflatables, party costumes – ELROW takes the party wherever they go.

Electro

Monegros has always tried to cater to all electronic music lovers. This year electro lovers will have the chance to see 2manydjs: The Belgian brothers are known for their uncanny remixes and mash-ups productions mixing and sampling pop, electro, rock or any kind of music they feel like. Their DJ sets are known for being wild; they will make you dance, jump, laugh and cry at the same time. On the bill as well The Bloody Beetroots (under which the producer and dj Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo operates), the bastard son of the Misfits and Daft Punk will demonstrate why they have become a worldwide phenomenon.

Drum&Bass & Dubstep

Monegros has always supported Drum&Bass and Dubstep. This year Monegros will be blessed by the live performance of Subfocus, with his special stage design. The mighty sounds of Borgore and Doctor P and the live performance of Son Of Kick with the drummer of Death In Vegas.

Hard Techno & Schranz

For those who like it fast, loud and hard, Monegros will once again support artists such as Frank Kvitta, Radium and Triple Religion. However this year should see fans of Hard Techno and Schranz extra pleased with special live sets from Pet Trio and Underdogz feat Motormorfoses.

Red Bull Music Academy

Once again, Monegros joins forces with the world-renowned Red Bull Music Academy, to present some of the most interesting movements to emerge from the electronic underground scene in recent years: from dubstep to footwork to deep house. All artists on the Red Bull Music Academy are former lecturers and participants at the Academy, including Addison Groove – one of the latest names recruited by Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label –, fellow Bristol producer Appleblim, Berlin-based bass/techno prodigy Cosmin TRG, and the ever exquisite Ewan Pearson, one of the most discerning and influential DJs of the past decade.

Special Non Musical Performances

Monegros DesART

Des-Art: Art performances and Activities

This year, the party will not only be on the stages and the dance floors. Musicians, DJS and public will be, as always the protagonists of the event, but for this special edition of the festival they will encounter some surprises while wandering through the festival grounds. All around the festival will be performing different street theatres companies as well as massive art installations. Monegros DesART Festival, is a new concept which tries to unite different internationally known art and street theatre companies such as La Fura dels Baus, Sarruga, Carros de Foc, Alea Teatrekrash Company, Toniton or La Gralla under one banner: DesART in order to create a once in a lifetime experience for festival goers.

Inspired by its own unique environment, Monegros Desert, this year main inspirations for DesART will be sand, fire, steel and destruction with a Mad Max feel. La Fura dels Baus, for example will create three different gigantic art performances wandering through the festival – The Ball, The Doll, and the Net. This will only be one of the many special performances going through the festival making it a unique and unforgettable experience.
