3 dead after Doom concert in Chile

3 personas perdieron la vida y otras 12 quedaron heridas durante la noche de este jueves durante una tocata crust/punk que se realizaba en el Centro de Eventos Tsunami, ubicado en Alameda con Santa Rosa.

La información entregada por Carabineros indica que cerca de las 23:30 horas se registró el colapso de una reja de contención que se encontraba sobre el subterráneo donde se presentaba la banda inglesa DOOM.

Según los antecedentes aportados por el administrador del lugar, al menos unas 50 personas que habían quedado sin espacio para ingresar, entraron a la fuerza al recinto, provocando el derrumbe de una estructura que aplastó a varias personas, dejando a dos muertos y doce heridos, todos con edades que rondan los 20 años.

Por ahora no se han entregado las identidades de las víctimas fatales, pero desde la Posta Central se indicó que se trata de dos personas de sexo masculino. Asimismo no se ha dado a conocer la lista de heridos, porque la mayoría se encontraba sin cédula de identidad.

“De acuerdo a la información que entrega el administrador, había más gente de la que el local podía albergar (…) este era un local que estaba autorizado, pero la cantidad de personas superó la capacidad (…) probablemente el lugar sea clausurado”, indicó el general de Carabineros Hugo Insulza.

“Se generó una emergencia producto de una aglomeración de personas (…) en algún momento determinado del local alcanzó su capacidad total de público y al exterior hubo personas que siguieron presionando por ingresar, eso generó el colapso de una reja de contención que cayó sobre la gente que estaba en el local”, confirmó el director regional de la Onemi.

Los heridos fueron rescatados por voluntarios de Bomberos y trasladados por personal del SAMU hasta la Posta Central, principalmente con paros cardiorespiratorios. De los 12 lesionados, 7 se encuentran en estado crítico y con riesgo vital.

Un centenar de personas entre familiares y amigos de los afectados se encuentra a la espera a las afueras del recinto asistencial.

Por otra parte, también se dio a conocer que a la salida del local se produjeron incidentes entre los asistentes, con quema de material inflamable, barricadas y peleas, las cuales tuvieron que ser controladas con la presencia de Fuerzas Especiales de Carabineros, quienes detuvieron a una decena de personas en estado de ebriedad.

Testigos indicaron que se produjo “una verdadera batalla campal” entre los jóvenes en que incluso fueron agredidos los organismos de emergencia que llegaron al lugar, y afirmaron que las peleas se repiten constantemente en el local.

Finalmente Carabineros dio cuenta de la detención del administrador del recinto, por la responsabilidad que pueda tener en esta tragedia. Por ahora el OS9 y el Labocar quedaron a cargo de la investigación y los peritajes para determinar la causa basal de este incidente.

“According to the information supplied by the administrator, there were more people than the venue could hold (…) this was a concert that was authorised, but the number of people exceeded the capacity (…) probably the venue will be closed”, Police General Hugo Insulza said.

It caused an “emergency caused by an agglomeration of people (…) at any given time the venue had reached its full capacity of people, and outside there were people who continued to try to enter, this caused the collapse of a containment fence that fell on the people who were inside the venue”, confirmed the regional director of the Onemi.

The injured were rescued by volunteer firefighters and taken by staff of the SAMU to the Central Hospital, mainly with cardiorespiratory problems. Of the 12 injured, seven are in a critical, life-threatening condition.

A hundred people including relatives and friends of those affected are waiting outside the hospital complex.

On the other side, it was also announced that there incidents among the participants outside the venue, involving burning flammable material, barricades and fighting, which had to be controlled by the presence of Special Police Forces, who arrested a dozen people who were intoxicated.

Witnesses said there was a “real battle ground” among the youths, who even attacked emergency services when they arrived, and stated that the fights were constantly repeated inside the premises.

Finally, police announced they have arrested the venue administrator as being responsible for this tragedy. For now the OS9 and Labocar are in charge of the investigation to determine the root cause of this incident.
