Bio

THE SCHOOL are a pop band from Cardiff on Elefant Records.

Their debut album ‘Loveless Unbeliever’ was released in 2010 and produced by Ian Catt (Saint Etienne, The Field Mice). It appeared in over 70 ‘Best of 2010’ lists, was 6 Music’s Album of the Day, Rough Trade’s Album of the Week and Radio Nowhere’s Album of the Year. Adam Walton declared it his “favourite Welsh pop album of all time”. Molly Ringwald is also a fan.

Slumberland Records released a 7″ as part of their ‘Searching For The Now’ series, split with George Washington Brown (Johnny X from Kenickie), where the band covered ‘And Suddenly’ by The Left Banke.

In 2011 they were nominated for ‘Best International Artist’ at the Spanish Independent Music Awards, and performed a live concert on Spanish TV ‘Los Conciertos De Radio 3’ (TVE).

Second album ‘Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything’ was released in 2012, produced by David Wrench (Euros Childs, Everything Everything, Alessi’s Ark, Bat For Lashes) at Bryn Derwen studios. Dave Rowntree from Blur said he bought it.

Everett True asked “could this be the best pop song of 2012?” and declared ‘Reading..’ his 2nd favourite album of the year, only behind Dexys.

They have appeared in session for Marc Riley and Tom Robinson on 6 Music, Radio 1 Session in Wales, Radio Wales, Q Radio and The Selector. They’ve performed at Latitude, Wychwood, Swn, Indietracks, London Popfest, Going Up The Country, Now We Are, Manchester Popfest and Wales Goes Pop! festivals in the UK, as well as South Pop, Lemon Pop, Murcia Popfest, Contempopranea and Murcia Sound in Spain, and NYC Popfest. They’ve also toured Sweden, Italy, Spain, the USA and the UK several times.

Limited edition picture disc 7″ single ‘When I Fall In Love’ was released in August 2014 on Where It’s At Is Where You Are (WIAIWYA)’s 7777777 singles club, with an illustration by Andy Hart.

An EP was released in March 2015 featuring ‘All I Want From You Is Everything’ and ‘I Will See You Soon’ from the album, as well as covers by Knickers and ‘Crying In The Rain’ by Carole King.

Third album ‘Wasting Away and Wondering’ was released on 4th September 2015, recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales by Rob Jones (who also made the much-loved Sweet Baboo album ‘Ships’).
